Which naturally leads to

Happy Birthday, [info]honorh!

Or whatever they say in Japan (where of course it's already the fourth, and I'm technically late, but that barely matters).

To any on my flist who might be worried: yes, there has been a violent quake in Italy but no, I was nowhere near it. I'm fine, my family is fine, my friends are fine.

To those who have lost their lives, their loved ones or their home go my fondest thoughts and well-wishes and all the little help I can spare.

Which, of course, means HAPPY BIRTHDAY, [info]mermaidrain!.

Will be back in the Land of the Working Dead momentarily. Be back soon. Promise.

Train leaves in two hours from now for Milan.

Plane takes off in the wee hours of the morning from Milan to LA Intl.

Other plane takes off from LA Intl. to Anchorage.

And from then on (well, until mid-July) it'svacatiopn time, and seeing the sights, and chatting and laughing and sharing (too brief a) time with [info]honorh and [info]mermaidrain, and having fun by all ways and means.

Yay!

Off to finish packing, now. (Yes, I am -that- procrastinatorizatingful or whatever the adjective form is if there's any.)

This recent Fandom Wank post has several links to an on-line forum discussing a sci-fi convention, with some posts by Aaron "Chief Tyrol" Douglas.

Apparently, he uses the faux-expletive "frak" in real life.

So, who's the more geeky: the geek or the geek that follows him?

...drats, I need a BSG icon. Oh, well, for now I'll stick with the Snowman Philosopher.

This Order of the Stick strip is entirely made of win -AND- you don't need to know the history of the comic or be a roleplaying geek to get the (numerous) punchlines.

Just sharing the joy.

OK, so a few weeks ago Mr. Berlusconi won the elections in a landslide.
We could debate endlessly on the nature and character of said Mr. Berlusconi and on whether <Dr. Cox>he is, in fact, the Devil</Dr. Cox> but I won't be boring you with that.

Fact is, though, he just announced the names of the members of his cabinet. The Ministry of Equal Opportunities, in charge of executive matters concerning equal treatment of men and women in the workplace and in society at large, will be held by... Mara Carfagna.

The answer to which is a stentorian and resounding "What the bloody hell?!"

You probably don't know anything about Mara Carfagna. I suggest that you do a Google image search for her name. I also suggest that you don't do that from work, because looking at nudie pics in the office is often frowned upon.

That's Mr. B's opinion of women, apparently.

Things change. But not drastically so.

My vacation plans have been slightly disrupted by some untimely wedding I have to attend (what's with me, overseas vacations and weddings? I'm starting to see a pattern, only I don't know what it lokks like). Dates have been pushed ahead, and now I'm in one of those good-news, bad-news situations.

Bad news: no Solstice Festival. Actually, no solstice, period. Plane takes off on the 26th. Or 27th.

Good news (which actually didn't occur to me until the chap at the travel agency said, "America, huh? Don't they have some holiday in July? What was it, the fouteenth?"): I get to witness to a real, authentic, 100% original Independence Day, with fireworks and everything. Woo-hoo!

Good news - director's cut: since on my way back I'll be spending the weekend chez my sis in Chicago, I'll be back in Europe on the 14th. More precisely, I'll stop over in Paris on July 14 - Bastille Day. Two independences for the price of one.

Return of the son of Good news: J? See you there. :-)

I don't have the exactestest dates yet, but it's probably going to be June 27 - July 9, both dates inclusive.

And that's pretty much all.

Disclaimer: This post, and a few that will follow, are entirely [info]honorh's fault. Yes they are. I'm not a science fiction and TV-show geek, I don't have an addictive personality when it comes to imaginary worlds and fictional continuity and I can stop watching a TV serial whenever I want, so this is not my fault. No one jot or tittle. No, sir.

And now for the reviews. )

More when I have the time to write them. (which is a rare luxury - I can multitask well enough to watch TV shows while I'm translating, but that's pretty much as good as it gets).

And, HH? Thank you so much. Possibly with a friendly "I hate you for getting me this addicted" on the side. :-)
